President Erdogan Calls for Urgent OIC Meeting to Address Attacks on Jerusalem

Ankara, The Gulf Observer: Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has called on the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) to hold an urgent leadership-level meeting in response to the escalating attacks on Jerusalem. The call came during a presidential cabinet meeting on Monday, where Erdogan stressed the importance of swift action from the Islamic world.

“It is unthinkable that the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation, whose duty is to defend the cause of Al Quds (Jerusalem), would remain indifferent to these attacks that are becoming more and more reckless day by day,” Erdogan said. He emphasized the need for the OIC to convene without delay, asserting that the Islamic world must demonstrate a unified and firm stance in the face of increasing provocations in Jerusalem.

In his remarks, President Erdogan also addressed the recent death of Aysenur Ezgi Eygi, a Turkish-American activist who was killed by Israeli forces during a protest against illegal Israeli settlements in the town of Beita, located in the Nablus district of the occupied West Bank. Erdogan vowed to seek justice for Eygi, stating, “We will take every legal step to ensure that Aysenur Ezgi’s blood is not left unavenged, and we will continue our fight against Israel at the highest level by applying to the Court of Justice.”

The Turkish president expressed his nation’s solidarity with the Palestinian people, drawing parallels to Turkey’s own history of resistance. “As a nation that made history with the epic of resistance against the imperialist powers of the time during the War of Independence, we stand with our Palestinian brothers,” Erdogan affirmed.

President Erdogan’s call for the OIC to convene and his pledge to seek justice for Eygi reflect Türkiye’s ongoing commitment to advocating for the Palestinian cause and addressing injustices in the region.
