President Erdogan Commemorates Victims of 1999 Marmara Earthquake on 26th Anniversary

Ankara, The Gulf Observer: Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Sunday commemorated the victims of the devastating Marmara earthquake on the occasion of its 26th anniversary.
“Even today, we still feel in our hearts the pain of our citizens who lost their lives in the August 17, 1999 Marmara earthquake,” the President said in his message.
Erdogan offered prayers for those who perished in the disaster and extended his condolences to their families and loved ones.
The 7.4-magnitude Marmara earthquake struck northwestern Türkiye on August 17, 1999, claiming more than 17,000 lives and leaving hundreds of thousands homeless, making it one of the deadliest disasters in the country’s modern history.
