President Ilham Aliyev Highlights Azerbaijan’s Initiative in Peace Process with Armenia in Budapest

Budapest, The Gulf Observer: President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev addressed the ongoing Armenia-Azerbaijan peace process during a joint press statement with Prime Minister of Hungary Viktor Orbán.

Speaking on the status of negotiations, President Aliyev underscored Azerbaijan’s leading role in initiating post-conflict dialogue and shaping the framework for lasting peace in the South Caucasus region.

“Following the Second Karabakh War, it was we who initiated the peace talks, and we were also the authors of the draft peace agreement,” the President stated. “It is precisely this text that has now been accepted by Armenia — naturally, with some amendments. But in principle, the proposal we put forward has now been accepted by Armenia.”

President Aliyev’s remarks reflect Baku’s consistent position on achieving a comprehensive and mutually acceptable peace agreement, grounded in the principles of sovereignty, territorial integrity, and regional cooperation.

The Azerbaijani leader’s statement comes amid renewed diplomatic momentum aimed at finalizing a historic agreement that would normalize relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia and contribute to long-term stability in the region.
