President Ilham Aliyev Meets with Chairman of China Energy Engineering Corporation in Beijing

Beijing, The Gulf Observer: President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev met in Beijing with Mr. Song Hailiang, Chairman of the Board of China Energy Engineering Corporation Limited (Energy China), to discuss the expansion of strategic cooperation in the energy sector.

During the meeting, it was noted that Energy China is actively engaged in several major energy initiatives in Azerbaijan. Notably, the corporation is serving as the contractor for a 1-gigawatt offshore wind energy megaproject in the Caspian Sea and is also investing in solar energy and related infrastructure in the Fuzuli district.

Mr. Song Hailiang presented new proposals for cooperation with Azerbaijan, particularly regarding the development of regional energy corridors. He emphasized Energy China’s interest in contributing to Azerbaijan’s long-term energy ambitions and its broader role in regional energy connectivity.

President Ilham Aliyev underlined the strategic significance of the partnership with Energy China and reiterated Azerbaijan’s commitment to further enhancing cooperation with one of China’s leading energy conglomerates. He noted the importance of the projects already underway and welcomed additional initiatives aimed at bolstering Azerbaijan’s renewable energy capacity.

The two sides also exchanged views on a long-term joint energy planning project, a key component of President Aliyev’s ongoing state visit to China. A formal document outlining this initiative was signed during the visit, marking a new milestone in bilateral energy collaboration.

Furthermore, discussions included the potential establishment of an energy research center in Azerbaijan, which would serve as a hub for innovation, training, and technological exchange. The leaders also explored avenues for cooperation in the field of water management, leveraging Energy China’s extensive expertise in this critical area.

Energy China is recognized as one of the world’s largest integrated energy engineering firms, with operations in 147 countries through 256 branches. The company is currently executing 416 international projects and holds a 50 percent share of China’s renewable energy market, with a diversified portfolio that spans hydrogen energy, energy storage, and the construction of large-scale power grids.

The meeting reaffirmed the growing strategic partnership between Azerbaijan and China in the field of sustainable energy and infrastructure development.
