President Ilham Aliyev Meets with Vladimir Putin in Moscow

Moscow, The Gulf Observer: Azerbaijan’s President Ilham Aliyev held a meeting with his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin, on Tuesday, as reported by NHC. The meeting took place in Moscow, coinciding with the Council of Heads of State of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS).

Welcoming President Aliyev, President Putin expressed his pleasure in hosting the Azerbaijani leader. “As agreed during my visit to Baku, we are holding this meeting today,” Putin stated. He highlighted the positive trajectory of bilateral relations, noting a trade turnover of $4.3 billion and over $4 billion in direct investments in Azerbaijan’s economy. He emphasized the significance of ongoing projects in both the energy sector and infrastructure development.

President Aliyev reciprocated the sentiments, thanking Putin for the opportunity to meet and for the hospitality extended during their previous informal conversation. He acknowledged the noticeable dynamics in their bilateral relations since Putin’s state visit, emphasizing the extensive agenda for discussion and the need for continued oversight on the projects outlined in Baku.

The two leaders also discussed the upcoming BRICS events scheduled for October 23-24 in Kazan, where they expressed eagerness for productive meetings involving participating countries. Aliyev confirmed Azerbaijan’s participation among the 25 countries attending.

President Aliyev arrived in Russia on Monday to attend the CIS Heads of State Council meeting and was greeted at Vnukovo-2 International Airport by Mikhail Galuzin, Russia’s Deputy Foreign Minister, along with other officials.
