President Jokowi Expresses Shock and Sorrow Over Trump Shooting Incident

Jakarta, The Gulf Observer: President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) has expressed his shock and sorrow following the shooting incident involving former President of the United States, Donald Trump, during a speech in Pennsylvania on Saturday, July 13th.

In a heartfelt message posted on his X account @jokowi, President Widodo stated, “I am feeling shocked and saddened by the shooting that targeted former President Donald Trump today.”

Jokowi emphasized that acts of violence are fundamentally opposed to the democratic values cherished worldwide. “Every act of violence is at odds with the democratic values that people around the globe adhere to,” he affirmed.

The Indonesian leader extended his wishes for Trump’s recovery, acknowledging the former president’s candidacy in the upcoming 2024 U.S. Presidential Election scheduled for November. “I am wishing him a recovery, and my prayers are with everyone affected by this incident,” Jokowi added.

The shooting occurred while Trump was delivering a speech at a campaign rally in Butler City, Pennsylvania. Gunfire erupted, forcing Trump to stop his speech and leave the podium with visible injuries, according to local media reports.

The speech, which addressed issues such as illegal migration, lasted only a few minutes before the incident took place. Trump’s spokesperson, Steven Cheung, later assured the public that Trump was “doing well” and was receiving treatment at a local medical facility.

In a statement released on Sunday, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) identified Thomas Matthew Crooks, a 20-year-old resident of Bethel Park, Pennsylvania, as the suspect in the attempted assassination.

The incident has drawn widespread condemnation and has reignited debates on security measures at political events and the broader issue of gun violence in the United States.
