President Mirziyoyev Briefed on Sports Development and Olympic Preparations

Tashkent, The Gulf Observer: President Shavkat Mirziyoyev has been briefed on the ongoing efforts to develop mass sports and expand the Olympic movement in Uzbekistan. The briefing highlighted the significant strides made in enhancing public health and nurturing a healthy generation through sports.

Uzbekistan has established the necessary infrastructure to support sports activities, including stadiums, training halls, workout areas, running tracks, sports schools, and complexes. These facilities are vital in promoting physical culture initiatives in neighborhoods, regional competitions, and the “Five Initiatives” Olympic program, which have successfully fostered a growing number of sports enthusiasts.

The State Program for the implementation of the “Uzbekistan – 2030” Strategy, declared the Year of Support for Youth and Business, includes numerous tasks aimed at furthering sports development. These tasks encompass providing primary sports equipment to educational institutions, extending the usage time of stadiums and sports facilities in neighborhoods, and organizing marathons and competitions in various sports such as football, volleyball, table tennis, chess, checkers, running, and kurash to engage 10 million people in mass sports.

Efforts to enhance sports conditions in regions, digitize selection processes, and adopt best practices have also been noted. These initiatives are designed to ensure that talented and promising youth are selected and trained to become qualified professional athletes.

President Mirziyoyev was also updated on preparations for the XXXIII Summer Olympic Games, set to take place from July 26 to August 11 in Paris, France. The prestigious event will feature more than 10,000 athletes from 206 countries, with Uzbekistan represented by 90 athletes in 19 sports. Notably, this year marks the first time Uzbek athletes have secured spots in football, diving, archery, and women’s wrestling. Women constitute 36 percent of the Uzbek Olympic team.

The national teams have undergone extensive preparations for the upcoming games. Each athlete has been given an individual strategy, with participation in qualifying competitions and local and international training events. Necessary conditions have been created in 15 Olympic and Paralympic centers and sports bases across the regions. Regular in-depth medical examinations and systematic measures for medical-biological and pharmacological support have been implemented to ensure athletes’ peak performance.

President Mirziyoyev wished the athletes success at the Olympics and instructed responsible officials to focus on the selection and support of talented youth and the formation of a high-quality reserve for national teams.

These efforts reflect Uzbekistan’s commitment to fostering a vibrant sports culture and achieving excellence on the international stage.
