Tashkent, The Gulf Observer: Festivities marking the 34th anniversary of Uzbekistan’s independence were held at New Uzbekistan Park in Tashkent, where President Shavkat Mirziyoyev congratulated citizens at home and abroad and outlined the nation’s progress and future aspirations.

In his address, the Head of State emphasized that the reforms carried out under the vision of building a “New Uzbekistan” have enabled every citizen to tangibly enjoy the rights and freedoms brought by independence. He underscored that the country is confidently advancing toward a “Third Renaissance,” building on its rich cultural heritage and historical renaissances.

President Mirziyoyev noted that independence rests on a strong economy, citing steady growth despite global challenges. Over the past eight years, Uzbekistan’s GDP has doubled to $115 billion, with expectations of $130 billion by the year’s end. Exports have reached $26 billion, while foreign reserves surpassed $48 billion for the first time. Foreign investment now totals around $130 billion, fueling the creation of thousands of enterprises and infrastructure projects.

Employment remains a priority, with 5 million citizens provided with jobs this year and 700,000 compatriots returning from abroad. Tourism has also flourished, with over 10 million visitors and $3 billion in tourism service exports.

The President highlighted achievements in the energy sector, particularly the rapid growth of green energy. Electricity output has risen from 59 to 85 billion kWh, with 6.5 billion kWh generated from renewables this year alone. By 2030, Uzbekistan aims for green energy to comprise 54 percent of total production.

In the social sphere, more than 11,000 multi-storey apartment buildings have been constructed in recent years, with 130,000 modern apartments to be delivered this year. Poverty has declined to 6.8 percent thanks to broad social support measures. Education and healthcare remain central priorities: kindergarten capacity has reached 2.5 million, higher education coverage has increased from 9 to 42 percent, and healthcare spending has grown sixfold, raising life expectancy to 75.1 years.

Addressing young people, President Mirziyoyev urged them to be determined and ambitious, stressing that “the future is created by the brave, and the victors write history.” He also reaffirmed Uzbekistan’s active role in global affairs, noting that the country has become a respected platform for international summits and forums.

Welcoming foreign ambassadors and representatives of international organizations, the President expressed gratitude for their cooperation and concluded with a message of unity: “We, the citizens of Uzbekistan, are one people, one country, one family. We share a common destiny and future, as well as happiness and achievements.”

The celebrations concluded with a grand concert showcasing the country’s cultural richness, broadcast live nationwide and online.
