President Mirziyoyev Leads Meeting on Sustainable Development and Economic Competitiveness

Tashkent, The Gulf Observer: President Shavkat Mirziyoyev convened a high-level meeting Friday to address critical issues concerning sustainable development and the enhancement of economic competitiveness across various sectors within the Republic of Uzbekistan.

Under the strategic directives outlined by the head of state, encompassing pivotal initiatives to revamp major enterprises, activate growth catalysts in regional domains, and bolster employment opportunities for citizens, there has been notable surge in economic vitality within targeted spheres and industries.

Preliminary data for the first quarter of this fiscal year anticipates a GDP growth exceeding 6 percent, propelled by a projected upswing of nearly 10 percent in industrial output and an envisaged surge in exports to the tune of US$3.5 billion. Such promising projections are attributed to proactive facilitation of entrepreneurial endeavors coupled with a reliable energy supply throughout the winter season.

Concurrently, amidst escalating global competition, it is imperative to culminate the foundational constructs of a market-oriented economy by the conclusion of 2024, thereby propelling the economy to a qualitatively advanced echelon while fortifying financial autonomy and resilience of enterprises.

During the session, deliberations centered on the efficacy of measures aimed at streamlining expenditures of major state-owned enterprises and conserving energy resources. Given the challenging global milieu, specific directives have been articulated to augment export revenues, fortify enterprise solvency, curtail outstanding accounts receivable, and forestall unwarranted escalation of operational costs.

Emphasis was placed on the full-scale harnessing of export potential inherent in various industries and geographic regions. Mandates were issued to establish conducive production and logistical frameworks, facilitating entrepreneurs’ access to foreign markets and heightening product competitiveness.

President Mirziyoyev underscored the imperative of maintaining price stability in the domestic market, accentuating the imperative to expand the localization endeavors concerning consumer goods, whilst extending support to enterprises in augmenting production capacities.

Furthermore, the imperative of leveraging the capacities of industrial zones and fostering collaboration to realize novel investment ventures and bolster domestic producers received due attention. The imperative of prioritizing the production of high value-added goods and fostering employment generation was also underscored.

The meeting concluded with a resounding commitment from all stakeholders to steadfastly pursue the outlined strategic imperatives, thereby fortifying Uzbekistan’s economic resilience and bolstering its competitive edge on the global stage.
