President Mirziyoyev Receives Chinese Parliamentary Delegation

Tashkent, The Gulf Observer: President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev welcomed a delegation from the National People’s Congress of China, led by Chairman of the Standing Committee Zhao Leji. During the meeting, Chairman Zhao conveyed heartfelt greetings and best wishes from President Xi Jinping of China to President Mirziyoyev.

The discussions highlighted the highest level of Uzbek-Chinese relations, marked by a friendship and comprehensive strategic partnership that has reached new heights in recent years. The consistent implementation of commitments made during President Mirziyoyev’s state visit to China in January 2024 was noted with deep satisfaction.

Both leaders expressed confidence that the outcomes of the productive high-level negotiations held during the SCO summit in Astana would provide fresh impetus for expanding multifaceted cooperation between the two nations.

China reaffirmed its strong support for Uzbekistan’s socio-economic reform agenda, especially in poverty reduction efforts. Plans for strategic cooperation in infrastructure development, industrial collaboration, agriculture, and green energy were also underscored.

The importance of promptly initiating practical work on the construction of the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway was emphasized as a significant step forward.

The meeting also acknowledged the value of intensive interregional contacts, with the second Regional Forum set to take place next year. Discussions included the establishment of branches of Chinese universities in Uzbekistan, expanding cooperation in vocational education, and supporting the activities of the Confucius Institute in Uzbekistan. Additionally, the second Educational Forum is scheduled for the coming year.

Cultural and tourist exchanges were also on the agenda, with both parties agreeing on the necessity of further expanding inter-parliamentary cooperation. They emphasized the importance of intensifying exchanges between parliamentarians and learning from each other’s legislative practices to support ongoing reforms.

A “roadmap” for implementing activities aimed at deepening parliamentary cooperation between Uzbekistan and China is expected to be adopted, reflecting the commitment of both nations to strengthen their bilateral ties.

President Mirziyoyev expressed his appreciation for China’s continued support and looked forward to furthering the strategic partnership between the two countries.
