President of Timor-Leste to Visit Vietnam
Hanoi, The Gulf Observer: The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has announced that President of Timor-Leste, José Ramos-Horta, will undertake a state visit to Vietnam from July 31 to August 3. This visit is at the invitation of President To Lam.
Vietnam and Timor-Leste share a long-standing relationship that dates back to the early days of Timor-Leste’s struggle for independence. When the Revolutionary Front for an Independent East Timor (FRETILIN) declared independence in September 1975, Vietnam was among the first countries to recognize the new nation.
Since Timor-Leste’s establishment as a state and its declaration of independence in May 2002, the relationship between the two countries has seen significant progress. In July 2002, both countries signed a Joint Communiqué establishing diplomatic relations at the ambassadorial level. Timor-Leste officially opened its embassy in Hanoi in April 2012.
Over the years, the leadership of Vietnam and Timor-Leste have conducted numerous high-level visits, further strengthening their bilateral ties. President Ramos-Horta’s upcoming visit is expected to deepen the cooperation between the two countries and explore new avenues for collaboration.
