President of Turkmenistan meets with UNESCO representative
Ashgabat, The Gulf Observer: President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov received UNESCO Tehran Cluster Office Director Golda El Khuri in Ashgabat on Monday, the official Turkmen media reported.
During the meeting, the sides discussed the ongoing work to include Ashgabat in the UNESCO Network of Creative Cities, as well as the inclusion of other types of art and distinctive customs of Turkmen people in the UNESCO Heritage List in the future.
Last year, on the initiative of the Turkmen state, the UNESCO Representative List of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity was supplemented with such types of intangible heritage as “Turkmen Embroidery Art,” “Silk weaving and traditional silk production for weaving,” and “The tradition of retelling the parable of Molla Ependi,” said Golda El Khuri, who presented President Serdar Berdymukhamedov with relevant certificates.
Expressing gratitude for the recognition, Serdar Berdimuhamedov noted that the event was a testament to the unique cultural heritage that the Turkmen people have passed down from generation to generation.
In an exchange of views on the status and prospects of fruitful relations, the Head of state and the representative of the organization said that Turkmenistan is carrying out extensive work to preserve its historical, cultural, and natural values.
At the end of the meeting, President Berdimuhamedov and Golda El Khuri exchanged good wishes and expressed confidence in continuing the multifaceted partnership of Turkmenistan with the UN and its agencies to strengthen trust and understanding among peoples through cultural cooperation, peace, and sustainable development goals
