President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev Arrives in Baku for COP29 Conference

Baku, The Gulf Observer: At the invitation of President Ilham Aliyev, President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev arrived in Baku today for a working visit. The President was warmly received at Heydar Aliyev International Airport by Azerbaijan’s Minister of Economy Mikayil Jabbarov and other high-ranking officials.

The focus of President Mirziyoyev’s visit is his participation in the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP29) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). During the conference, he is expected to engage in discussions and hold bilateral meetings with leaders of foreign states and representatives of international organizations to address pressing climate issues.

The Uzbekistan delegation, under President Mirziyoyev’s leadership, plans to host a series of high-level events within COP29 aimed at combating land degradation and desertification, fostering environmental education, and highlighting youth engagement in advancing the global climate agenda.

A highlight of Uzbekistan’s participation is the National Pavilion, where more than 20 side events will be organized. These events will focus on addressing socio-ecological challenges in the Aral Sea region, promoting a green economy, adopting renewable energy and water-saving technologies, enhancing food security, and preserving biodiversity. This initiative underscores Uzbekistan’s commitment to meaningful climate action and sustainable development on a global scale.

President Mirziyoyev’s active participation is anticipated to further strengthen international cooperation in tackling climate change and promoting innovative, sustainable solutions.
