President Of Uzbekistan speaks about cooperation between EU and Central Asia
Samarkand, The Gulf Observer: The President of Uzbekistan addressed the participants of the first conference “Interconnectivity of the European Union and Central Asia: a global gateway for sustainable development”, held in Samarkand.
“The European Union has adopted an updated Strategy for Central Asia, but, unfortunately, due to the pandemic, which has become a difficult test, we cannot yet say that we have fully implemented the big plans outlined earlier, the most important tasks of our common agenda with European partners,” Shavkat Mirziyoyev emphasized in his address.
The President noted that the conference held in the city of Samarkand is extremely important, as it is designed to intensify the dialogue between the European Union and Central Asia.
It was stressed that it is important, first of all, to effectively use the huge potential of the European Union and Central Asia for mutually beneficial cooperation and inclusive development in the field of digital transformation.
According to the President, the diversification of transport routes is an equally urgent task for all Central Asian countries, the implementation of which will open access to world markets, active participation in the processes of global integration and cooperation.
“The development of the Trans-Caspian multimodal route will be a great contribution to the further deepening of trade-economic cooperation between Europe and Asia, the entry of Central Asian countries to foreign markets through the most convenient transport corridors,” Shavkat Mirziyoyev emphasized.
The President also noted that the European Union is the main partner of Uzbekistan in “green” development.
“Undoubtedly, climate change mitigation, transition to inclusive green growth, rational water use, environmental security will continue to be the priorities of our multilateral cooperation,” Shavkat Mirziyoyev said.
In conclusion, the President of Uzbekistan expressed hope that joint efforts to strengthen ties between Central Asia and the European Union would bring positive results.
