President Pezeshkian Meets Finnish Counterpart, Calls for Genuine Multilateralism and Trust-Building

New York, The Gulf Observer: Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian stated that efforts to strengthen relations with European countries have not advanced as expected, resulting in the current situation where three European states are seeking to implement the so-called snapback mechanism against Iran.
President Pezeshkian made the remarks during a meeting with Finnish President Alexander Stubb on the sidelines of the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York on Wednesday.
The Iranian president underlined that Iran has no intention of pursuing nuclear weapons and remains open to transparency on the matter. However, he noted that widespread mistrust toward the West persists, rooted in the failure of the United States and European powers to honor commitments and in the military attacks carried out against Iran during negotiations. Despite this, he affirmed that diplomacy remains the only viable path to overcoming mistrust and achieving sustainable solutions.
Pezeshkian further emphasized the importance of promoting multilateralism and rejecting unilateralism as the most effective means to strengthen international cooperation. He urged international organizations, particularly the United Nations, to assume greater responsibility in ensuring peace and stability. “Specifically, they should take effective and practical measures to stop the crimes of the Zionist regime,” he stressed.
For his part, Finnish President Alexander Stubb underscored that dialogue and diplomacy remain the only effective methods to address global challenges. “We need genuine multilateralism, and as the world shifts away from unilateralism, we must ensure that a multipolar space does not replace multilateralism,” Stubb remarked.
The meeting reflected both sides’ commitment to dialogue, with a shared recognition that diplomacy and multilateral frameworks are essential for addressing complex international issues.
