President Pezeshkian Urges Strengthened People-Led Environmental Management

President Pezeshkian

Tehran, The Gulf Observer: President Masoud Pezeshkian has emphasized the importance of enhancing people-led management in environmental protection, noting that communities act more responsibly when directly entrusted with safeguarding the environment in which they live and work.

Speaking at the 40th meeting of Iran’s Supreme Council for the Environment on Saturday, President Pezeshkian cautioned that concentrating responsibility in the hands of a limited number of managers and officials can often result in institutions prioritizing their own interests over broader national goals.

“When responsibility for protecting the environment is given to the people themselves, they will undoubtedly act far more responsibly,” he said, underlining the role of civic engagement in achieving sustainable environmental outcomes.

President Pezeshkian also highlighted the responsibility of industrial and production units, calling on both large and small enterprises to take greater accountability for environmental protection. He advocated for delegating environmental safeguards related to industrial activities to the companies themselves, provided these operate under precise and up-to-date regulations.

At the same time, he stressed the importance of continuous government supervision to ensure compliance and maintain effective environmental governance.

The president’s remarks reflect a policy focus on community-driven environmental stewardship combined with regulated industrial accountability as key strategies for sustainable development in Iran.
