President Prabowo Steps Down as PB IPSI Chief, Cites National Responsibilities

Jakarta, The Gulf Observer: Prabowo Subianto has announced his decision to step down as general chairperson of the Executive Board of the Indonesian Pencak Silat Association (PB IPSI), ending a leadership tenure spanning more than three decades.
Speaking at the association’s national congress in Jakarta on Saturday, President Prabowo said his demanding responsibilities as head of state require his full attention, making it difficult to continue effectively in the role.
“Today, I am announcing that I will not continue as the general chairperson of PB IPSI, as I have now taken on national duties that require my full time and attention,” he stated.
During his long association with PB IPSI, Prabowo served as deputy chairperson for four terms and as chairperson for five terms. While acknowledging that he had not been directly involved in the organization’s day-to-day activities in recent years, he noted that he continued to offer support from behind the scenes.
The Indonesian leader made it clear that he would not accept renomination and urged the association to identify a capable successor from the next generation to lead the organization forward.
“I believe there is a new generation ready to take over the mantle of leadership at IPSI, and I will certainly continue to support PB IPSI,” he said, while also apologizing for any shortcomings during his tenure and expressing gratitude for the loyalty and support extended to him.
Highlighting future aspirations, Prabowo reiterated the goal of securing Olympic recognition for Pencak Silat, Indonesia’s traditional martial art, expressing confidence that the incoming leadership would be able to realize this ambition.
Despite relinquishing his official position, President Prabowo affirmed his enduring commitment to the sport and the association, pledging continued support in any capacity.
“I have been part of the IPSI community for 34 years and I am ready to continue to provide my support, whether I hold a title or not. A warrior remains a warrior until their very last breath,” he emphasized.
