President Prabowo Stresses Need for Strong Defense to Safeguard Indonesia’s Sovereignty

Jakarta, The Gulf Observer: President Prabowo Subianto has emphasized that Indonesia must possess a robust defense system to safeguard its sovereignty amid an increasingly uncertain global geopolitical climate.

Speaking while leading an Operational Troop Deployment and Military Honors Ceremony in West Bandung, West Java, on Sunday, the President underscored that Indonesia maintains a non-aligned stance and does not wish to join any geopolitical bloc.

“For that reason, there is no other choice — Indonesia must have a very strong defense,” he stated at the ceremony, monitored online from Jakarta.

President Prabowo noted that while Indonesia does not seek conflict, the reality is that armed confrontations are taking place in various parts of the world. He cautioned that the country’s free and active foreign policy should not lead to complacency, stressing that such a stance necessitates a strong defense to prevent mistreatment by global powers.

Earlier, during a Plenary Cabinet Meeting in Jakarta on August 6, President Prabowo reaffirmed the government’s commitment to addressing global challenges through calm and measured approaches.

“We negotiate, we engage in dialogue, and we avoid emotion-driven measures. We are aware that this country has major interests, and it is the government’s duty to protect the Indonesian people,” he affirmed.
