President Prabowo Urges Caution in Aviation Sector Amid Airfare Reduction Policy
Jakarta, The Gulf Observer: President Prabowo Subianto has directed the Red and White Cabinet to ensure the stability of Indonesia’s aviation industry following the government’s decision to reduce domestic airfares by 10 percent ahead of the year-end holidays. Speaking at a plenary Cabinet meeting at the Presidential Palace on Monday, the President underscored the importance of safeguarding the industry while implementing the new policy.
“The decision to lower airfares is the right move, but we must remain vigilant to ensure it does not harm the aviation sector,” President Prabowo stated.
The President also called on ministers to enhance cross-ministerial collaboration to ensure comprehensive preparations for the Christmas and New Year holidays. Specific tasks were assigned to several key ministers, including:
- Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono, Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development,
- Dudy Purwagandhi, Minister of Transportation,
- Widiyanti Putri Wardhana, Minister of Tourism, and
- Dody Hanggodo, Minister of Public Works.
“For the end-of-year holidays, including Christmas and the 2025 New Year, I urge maximum preparations in all aspects, from security to infrastructure,” he said.
Boosting Economy and Public Confidence
President Prabowo highlighted the importance of leveraging the holiday season to boost the economy and strengthen public trust. He emphasized the need for seamless coordination between government agencies and ministries to ensure a safe, smooth, and economically beneficial holiday period.
“This holiday season is an opportunity to improve our economy while ensuring the public faces the New Year with confidence. Maintaining safety and convenience is paramount,” he remarked.
Airfare Reduction Policy Details
The government has announced a 10 percent reduction in domestic flight ticket prices at all airports across Indonesia during the holiday season. The tariff adjustment will be in effect for 16 days, from December 19, 2024, to January 3, 2025, as part of efforts to stimulate holiday travel and support economic activity.
The policy reflects the government’s commitment to balancing affordability for the public with the sustainability of the aviation sector. Close monitoring and strategic measures will be implemented to ensure the industry remains resilient during this period.
