President Shavkat Mirziyoyev Visits Khanabad to Assess Community Development

Khanabad, The Gulf Observer: Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev visited the city of Khanabad, situated in the easternmost part of Uzbekistan, to gain firsthand insights into the lives of its residents and assess the progress of community development initiatives.
Historically, Khanabad maintained a special access regime due to its border location. Recent changes, including the implementation of the Good Neighborhood Policy, have transformed Khanabad, leading to significant economic improvement and a rise in the standard of living for its population. The city now boasts developments in tourism, industry, vegetable cultivation, and the service sector.
During the visit, representatives of the “Yangi Hayot” neighborhood briefed the Head of State on the living conditions and recent advancements in the area.
“Yangi Hayot” is home to over 3.5 thousand residents and features educational institutions such as preschools, schools, and colleges, ensuring access to quality education. The population is engaged in various sectors, including mountain recreation, manufacturing, and private farming.
The neighborhood also hosts over ten guest houses, approximately twenty shops, hairdressers, and service centers. Last year, more than a hundred unemployed residents secured permanent and seasonal employment, while 181 citizens became self-employed, reflecting positive economic growth.
In alignment with the President’s decree issued on December 21, 2023, emphasizing the pivotal role of neighborhood institutions, the “mahalla of seven” was established. This structure comprises the neighborhood chairman, a mayoral assistant, a women’s affairs activist, a youth leader, a prevention inspector, a tax officer, and a social service worker.
President Mirziyoyev engaged in discussions with representatives of this system, highlighting the significance of a strong neighborhood system as the primary link in society. He emphasized the importance of a continuous dialogue with the people, aiming to ensure their happiness. The President expressed his belief that “Yangi Hayot” would serve as an exemplary model for the entire nation, showcasing the transformative potential of neighborhood-based initiatives in Uzbekistan.
