President To Lam Arrives in New York for UN Summit

New York, The Gulf Observer: General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) Central Committee and State President To Lam, accompanied by his spouse and a high-ranking delegation, arrived at John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York on the afternoon of September 21 (local time) to attend the United Nations Summit of the Future and the 79th session of the UN General Assembly (UNGA 79). The delegation will also participate in working sessions in the United States.

Upon their arrival, the Vietnamese delegation was welcomed by Vietnamese Ambassador to the U.S. Nguyễn Quốc Dũng and his spouse, Ambassador Đặng Hoàng Giang, Permanent Representative of Vietnam to the UN, along with members of the Vietnamese Embassy staff.

This visit holds great significance, as it highlights Vietnam’s continued contributions to the UN, the world’s largest multilateral organization, and the country’s active role in addressing regional and global issues. General Secretary Tô Lâm is expected to deliver key messages in support of multilateralism, emphasizing the United Nations’ central role in promoting global peace, cooperation, and sustainable development.

The visit reaffirms Vietnam’s foreign policy of independence, self-reliance, and proactive international integration. It also highlights the nation’s commitment to being a reliable partner and responsible member of the international community, contributing actively to peace, cooperation, and development on the global stage.

Additionally, General Secretary Tô Lâm’s working visit to the United States coincides with the first anniversary of the U.S.-Vietnam comprehensive strategic partnership, as both nations prepare to celebrate the 30th anniversary of their diplomatic ties in 2025. This visit offers an important opportunity for both countries to reflect on the successes of their partnership and to explore new directions for strengthening and stabilizing bilateral relations in the years to come.

During the trip, General Secretary Tô Lâm is scheduled to hold bilateral meetings with U.S. leaders, deliver speeches at events marking the first anniversary of the comprehensive strategic partnership, and meet with key U.S. officials, business leaders, experts, and academics to discuss areas of cooperation and shared interests.
