President To Lam Lauds Metfone as Model for Vietnam-Cambodia Economic Cooperation

Phnom Penh, The Gulf Observer: During his state visit to Cambodia on July 13, President To Lam affirmed that Metfone, an affiliate of the Viettel Military Industry and Telecoms Group, serves as a typical model for economic cooperation between Vietnam and Cambodia. The President visited Metfone, the leading mobile operator in Cambodia, and praised the significant achievements the company has made over its 15-year presence in the Cambodian market.
President Lam lauded Metfone not only for its dynamic business operations but also for winning the hearts of the Cambodian people through its social security initiatives. He commended the company’s commitment to supporting the Cambodian Government in implementing e-Government and leading efforts in digital transformation across various governmental ministries and agencies.
Expressing his hopes for the future, President Lam encouraged Metfone to maintain its leadership in telecommunications, technology, and digital transformation in Cambodia. He also emphasized the importance of the company’s continued support for the Vietnamese business community in the country.
Viettel began investing in Cambodia in 2006, and in partnership with a Cambodian entity, launched Metfone in 2009. Today, Metfone stands as one of the top five taxpayers in Cambodia and has generated approximately 30,000 indirect jobs.
During the visit, President To Lam also witnessed the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Vietnam Airlines and Cambodia Angkor Air, aimed at strengthening and expanding bilateral cooperation to deliver high-quality aviation services on routes between Vietnam and Cambodia. Another MoU was signed between Vietnam Airlines, Saigon Tourist Group, Cambodia Tourism Association (CATA), and Cambodia Angkor Air to promote tourism cooperation.
The visit and agreements highlight the continued commitment of Vietnam and Cambodia to deepening their economic and cooperative ties.
