Astana, The Gulf Observer: Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev received Chungwon Choue, President of World Taekwondo, in a meeting that marked a significant moment for Kazakhstan’s sports community, the Akorda press service reported.

President Tokayev emphasized that the visit underscores World Taekwondo’s strong commitment to supporting the development of the sport in Kazakhstan. He described taekwondo as more than an Olympic discipline, highlighting its philosophical foundations of harmony, discipline, and mutual respect that unite millions globally.

The Head of State pointed to the upcoming Kazakhstan Open 2025, an international G-1 ranking tournament to be held in Astana, as a vital opportunity for the professional growth of Kazakh athletes, fostering the exchange of best practices and enhancing the competitiveness of the national federation.

President Tokayev expressed confidence that collaborative efforts will further promote taekwondo in Kazakhstan and deepen ties between nations.

In response, Chungwon Choue conveyed his gratitude for the warm reception and the support extended for taekwondo’s development in the country. In recognition of his significant contributions to the sport worldwide, President Tokayev awarded Chungwon Choue the Dostyq Order, II Degree. The World Taekwondo President also presented the Head of State with the 9th dan black belt, symbolizing profound respect.
