President Tokayev Calls for Global Cooperation and Technology-Driven Solutions at COP29 Climate Summit
Baku, The Gulf Observer: Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev addressed the World Leaders Climate Action Summit at the 29th Conference of the Parties (COP29) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), reaffirming Kazakhstan’s dedication to the global climate agenda. According to Akorda, President Tokayev was the first speaker at the plenary session, emphasizing the critical role of international cooperation in combating climate change and outlining Kazakhstan’s goal of achieving carbon neutrality by 2060.
In his remarks, President Tokayev stressed the need for predictable financing and access to advanced technologies to support global climate objectives. He called for focused support under the New Collective Quantified Goal, particularly for vulnerable regions such as landlocked developing countries that face heightened climate challenges.
While Central Asia contributes just 1% to global emissions, the region confronts significant climate risks, Tokayev noted. To enhance climate resilience, he advocated the use of cutting-edge technologies like artificial intelligence, satellite monitoring, and digital tools that can improve early warning systems and optimize water and land resource management.
The summit’s opening also featured an address from UN Secretary-General António Guterres, who underscored the urgency of climate action, setting the stage for discussions aimed at accelerating efforts to address the intensifying climate crisis.
