President Tokayev Chairs Security Council Meeting on Cybersecurity

Astana, The Gulf Observer: President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev chaired a meeting of the Kazakh Security Council focused on cybersecurity and the protection of citizens’ digital environment, according to media reports.

In his Address to the Nation, Tokayev had earlier set the task of transforming Kazakhstan into a fully digital country, underscoring that this goal requires comprehensive measures, including robust cybersecurity.

During the meeting, participants discussed pressing issues such as modern cyber threats and countermeasures, the safeguarding of critical information infrastructure, the development of the domestic cybersecurity industry, and the enhancement of personnel training systems. Reports were presented by Digital Development, Innovations and Aerospace Industry Minister Zhaslan Madiyev and Chairman of the National Security Committee Yermek Sagimbayev.

The President highlighted the urgent need to combat cybercrime, particularly cyber fraud, and to strengthen the competencies of government agencies responsible for investigating such crimes. He also prioritized the protection of citizens’ personal data, calling for stricter accountability in cases of data breaches.

Tokayev further stressed the importance of preventive efforts, emphasizing the need to educate the public on safe and responsible digital practices.

Concluding the session, the Head of State instructed relevant agencies to implement measures aimed at reducing strategic risks and addressing systemic challenges within the national cybersecurity framework.
