President Tokayev Congratulates Journalists on Mass Media Workers Day

Astana, The Gulf Observer: President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev extended his heartfelt congratulations to media professionals on the occasion of their upcoming professional holiday — the Day of Mass Media Workers, celebrated annually on June 28. The message was delivered during a ceremonial gathering with journalists and media representatives held at the Akorda Presidential Palace, according to media reports.
In his address, President Tokayev underscored the vital role of the media in modern society, describing it as the “voice of the nation” and journalists as “heralds of reliable information.” He expressed deep appreciation for the efforts of media workers in ensuring open communication between the government and the public.
“You serve as a link between authorities and the public, explaining state policy and the essence of reforms to the population. I am thankful to you for such an important and complex job that not everyone can handle,” the President said during the awards ceremony.
Reflecting on Kazakhstan’s recent development path, President Tokayev noted that the country has undergone profound political transformations in recent years. He recalled the nationwide referendum held three years ago, which initiated major constitutional amendments and paved the way for a restructuring of the political system.
He emphasized the establishment of the “Strong President – Influential Parliament – Subordinate Government” model as a guiding principle of governance. The President also highlighted the expansion of parliamentary powers, the enhancement of governmental accountability, and the renewal of all branches of power in accordance with the Constitution.
Significantly, Tokayev pointed to the introduction of direct elections for rural and district akims (mayors) as a breakthrough step towards local self-governance and increased public participation in decision-making processes.
“The citizens got an opportunity to actively participate in policy making processes. The Law and Order Concept has become an integral part of public consciousness,” he noted.
The event concluded with the presentation of state and professional awards to distinguished media workers in recognition of their contribution to journalism and national development.
