President Tokayev Highlights Sustainability Strategy at Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week 2025

Abu Dhabi, The Gulf Observer: President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev of Kazakhstan delivered the opening address at the Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week (ADSW) 2025, becoming the first world leader to speak at the prestigious global forum, Akorda reported.
In his address, President Tokayev outlined the pressing challenges facing the world today, including climate change, desertification, biodiversity loss, water scarcity, and food security, exacerbated by geopolitical tensions and disruptions in global supply chains.
Kazakhstan’s Ambitious Sustainability Strategy
President Tokayev emphasized Kazakhstan’s commitment to tackling these challenges through a comprehensive strategy anchored on three pillars: digitalization and artificial intelligence (AI), large-scale infrastructure projects, and the development of nuclear energy.
“The energy sector accounts for 75% of global greenhouse gas emissions and contributes to 10% of biodiversity loss,” Tokayev noted, stressing the urgent need for transformative solutions. He highlighted Kazakhstan’s role as a hub for green energy, with international partners such as Masdar, Total, and Eni committing to green energy projects totaling 43GW.
A significant milestone in Kazakhstan’s sustainable energy development is the planned construction of its first nuclear power plant, a project widely supported in a nationwide referendum. This initiative, Tokayev said, will mark a pivotal step in securing the country’s energy sustainability.
Additionally, the President outlined Kazakhstan’s efforts to diversify the supply of critical raw materials essential for achieving global carbon reduction goals.
Recognition at ADSW 2025
Earlier, President Tokayev participated in the official opening ceremony of ADSW 2025 and the awarding of the Zayed Sustainability Prize, a platform celebrating innovation in sustainability and humanitarian efforts.
Kazakhstan’s active role in global sustainability efforts and President Tokayev’s forward-looking address at ADSW reaffirm the country’s dedication to addressing critical environmental and economic challenges through innovative and collaborative approaches.
