President Tokayev Launches Gas Supply to Kosshy, Highlights Agricultural and Urban Development in Akmola Region

Astana, The Gulf Observer: President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev on Tuesday participated via teleconference in a ceremony marking the launch of natural gas supply to the town of Kosshy, the Akorda press service reported.

The event marked the commissioning of the first phase of a major gasification project, with a new gas regulation facility now operational. Natural gas will be delivered through 409 kilometers of main pipelines, with a capacity of up to 32,800 cubic meters per hour. The total investment in the project amounts to 11.4 billion tenge.

Kosshy, located in the Akmola region, was granted the status of a city of regional significance by Presidential Decree on July 27, 2021. The introduction of gas supply is expected to significantly improve living standards and support further urban development.

Earlier in the day, President Tokayev arrived in Akmola region for a working trip, where he met with local agrarians. During the meeting, he announced that the II AgriForum would be held in Astana, underscoring the government’s commitment to strengthening the agricultural sector.

The President was informed that the sown area in Akmola region has expanded to 5.5 million hectares, including 495,000 hectares planted with oilseed crops. He stressed the importance of diversifying croplands and accelerating the introduction of digital technologies in farming to boost efficiency and sustainability.

As part of his trip, Tokayev was also presented with the new general layout of the city of Kokshetau. He was briefed on the successful launch of a five-year housing renovation program in the regional administrative center, designed to enhance urban infrastructure and living conditions.
