Projects

Astana, The Gulf Observer: President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev met with Alibek Zhamauov, Chairman of the Management Board of NC QazaqGaz JSC, to review the company’s performance in 2025 and discuss the implementation of key projects in the gas industry, the Akorda press service reported.

During the meeting, Zhamauov noted that amid rising domestic gas consumption and the need to expand gas processing capacities, QazaqGaz has prioritized geological exploration and capital construction. A major focus remains the development and expansion of gas infrastructure, including the gasification of Astana and its surrounding metropolitan area.

The Chairman informed the Head of State that around 400,000 people gained access to natural gas last year, with 112 settlements newly connected to the gas grid.

One of the landmark achievements in 2025 was the completion of the Taldykorgan–Usharal gas pipeline 16 months ahead of schedule. The project will provide natural gas to 84 settlements in the Zhetysu region and increase the region’s gasification level to 76 percent.

Zhamauov also briefed the President on progress in major infrastructure projects, including the construction of the second line of the Beineu–Bozoy–Shymkent gas pipeline and a gas processing plant with a capacity of 1 billion cubic meters at the Kashagan field.

In line with the President’s directives to expand the resource base of the gas industry, development operations have begun at the Maldybay field in the Zhambyl region. The Barkhannaya field within the Amangeldy cluster has also been successfully commissioned and is now operational.

The head of QazaqGaz further reported on the company’s digital transformation efforts. Under the Aqyl Energy initiative, QazaqGaz is implementing digital solutions for gas metering and supply management through the integration of artificial intelligence and advanced data analytics.

Concluding the meeting, President Tokayev instructed the company to ensure stable gas supplies for the population and the national economy during the heating season. He also emphasized the need to accelerate digital transformation and AI integration across operations, while continuing efforts to expand the sector’s resource base.
