President Xi Emphasizes Ecological Conservation and Development in Yellow River Basin

Yinchuan, The Gulf Observer: Chinese President Xi Jinping has placed a spotlight on ecological conservation and high-quality development in the Yellow River basin during his inspection tour of northwest China’s Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region. This visit follows his recent inspection in Qinghai Province.

Ningxia, located within the Yellow River basin and surrounded by deserts on three sides, faces significant challenges in conserving and restoring its ecosystems. President Xi, who also serves as the general secretary of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and chairman of the Central Military Commission, called for a balanced approach to development and environmental protection in the region.

During his tour on Wednesday, President Xi urged Ningxia to integrate high-quality development with high-level environmental protection. He emphasized the need for further reforms and opening up, advancing new urbanization and rural revitalization, and promoting ethnic unity and common prosperity.

Ningxia is notable for its large ethnic minority population. On Wednesday afternoon, President Xi visited a multi-ethnic residential community in the regional capital, Yinchuan. The community, home to over 18,000 residents, includes 38 percent from ethnic minority groups such as Hui, Manchu, Mongolian, and Tibetan.

President Xi’s first stop was at the community service center and an activity room, where he observed residents engaging in paper-cutting and dancing. He engaged in conversations with the residents, emphasizing the importance of addressing their urgent needs and concerns through thorough, detailed, and concrete efforts to provide high-quality services.

Following this, President Xi visited the home of resident Zhao Shoucheng. In a warm exchange with the Zhao family, he inquired about their employment, income, medical insurance, and children’s education. “I am concerned about the well-being of every family of all ethnic groups,” President Xi remarked, extending his best wishes to the family.

At the community square, President Xi spoke to the gathered residents, expressing his delight at visiting Ningxia again and meeting with people from various ethnic groups. “The Chinese nation is a big family,” he stated, calling for continued efforts to foster a strong sense of community and to harness collective strength to advance Chinese modernization.

President Xi’s visit underscores the central government’s commitment to ecological sustainability, high-quality development, and ethnic unity, reflecting broader goals for the region and the nation as a whole.
