Kuala Lumpur, The Gulf Observer: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has extended an invitation to Thailand’s newly appointed Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul to visit Malaysia following his assumption of office earlier this month.

In a Facebook post, Anwar said the invitation was conveyed during a telephone conversation with Anutin on Thursday, September 18. He noted that the visit would form part of ongoing efforts to further strengthen the close relations between the two neighbouring countries.

During the discussion, both leaders exchanged views on recent developments at the Thailand-Cambodia border. Anwar underscored the importance of all parties maintaining peace and avoiding actions that could escalate tensions. He stressed that any disputes should be resolved at the negotiation table through the established framework of Joint Border Committee (JBC) meetings.

“Malaysia believes that the spirit of dialogue, diplomacy and mutual understanding is the best way to ensure regional peace and stability,” Anwar said.

Anutin, 58, leader of the Bhumjaithai Party, officially assumed office as Thailand’s 32nd Prime Minister on September 7, after receiving royal assent, marking a new chapter in the country’s political leadership.
