Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif Announces Major Fuel Price Cuts to Ease Inflation Burden

Islamabad, The Gulf Observer: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has announced a significant reduction in fuel prices, aiming to provide relief to citizens and support the agricultural sector amid ongoing economic challenges.
In a خطاب to the nation, the Prime Minister stated that the government had pledged to pass on the benefits of declining global oil prices to the public. Fulfilling that commitment, he announced an immediate reduction of Rs135 per litre in diesel prices, bringing the rate down from Rs520 to Rs380 per litre.
He emphasized that the decision comes at a crucial time as the wheat harvesting season begins, noting that reducing input costs for farmers is essential to protect their livelihoods and prevent a rise in food prices for the العامة.
In addition to diesel, the Prime Minister also announced a further Rs12 per litre cut in petrol prices, following last week’s Rs80 reduction. With the latest decrease, petrol prices will drop from Rs378 to Rs366 per litre, effective from midnight.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif reiterated that the government’s targeted subsidy program—announced recently in consultation with provincial governments—will continue to benefit citizens across all four provinces, as well as Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir.
He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to alleviating the burden of inflation and ensuring economic stability, particularly for farmers and low-income households.
