Qatar Hosts Second Meeting of GCC Scientific Research and Innovation
Doha, The Gulf Observer: Qatar’s Ministry of Education and Higher Education (MoEHE), in collaboration with the General Secretariat of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) and the Qatar National Commission for Education, Culture, and Science, convened the second meeting of the permanent committee for scientific research and innovation officials of the GCC in Doha.
Chaired by the Undersecretary of the MoEHE, Dr. Ibrahim bin Saleh Al Nuaimi, the meeting addressed various crucial topics on its agenda. Key discussions centered around the Joint GCC Fund for Scientific Research and Innovation, the performance measurement model for the committee’s 2024 work plan, and the tasks and mechanisms of the GCC Center for Scientific Research and Innovation. Additionally, the conference on scientific research and innovation in the GCC countries and its objectives were among the significant subjects deliberated.
Dr. Al Nuaimi expressed pride in Qatar’s achievements in scientific research under the wise leadership of Amir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani. He highlighted Qatar’s commitment to fostering scientific research, evident in the establishment of research and scientific centers such as the Qatar Research, Development, and Innovation (QRDI) Council and the Qatar Science & Technology Park (QSTP). These entities serve as hubs for innovation, development, and scientific leadership at local, regional, and international levels.
Qatar has further demonstrated its dedication to scientific progress through the establishment of specialized scientific and research centers in national universities, aligning with the Qatar National Vision 2030. Dr. Al Nuaimi emphasized Qatar’s ongoing efforts in organizing systematic scientific events, including the upcoming 5th GCC skills competition, the 24th meeting of the ministers of higher education and scientific research in the GCC countries, and forums addressing cybersecurity and scientific research and innovation in the GCC countries.
Eng. Abdullah bin Ali Al Rubaie, head of the human and environmental affairs sector at the GCC Secretariat General, emphasized the importance of strengthening cooperation between GCC states in education and scientific research. The meeting’s agenda focused on supporting the launch of the GCC Center for Scientific Research and Innovation and the Joint GCC Fund for Scientific Research and Innovation, reflecting the shared commitment of GCC leaders to advancing these vital fields.
