Doha, The Gulf Observer: Qatar took part in the urgent special ministerial meeting on the situation in Sudan, organised by the African Union’s Commission.

Minister of State at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs H E Dr. Mohammed bin Abdulaziz bin Saleh Al Khulaifi represented Qatar at the meeting which was held via video.

Addressing the meeting, Al Khulaifi said that Qatar deeply regrets the situation in Sudan, and is following with concern the current developments. He renewed Qatar’s call to all parties for a quick and immediate ceasefire, and to stop the escalation that is causing irreparable losses to the brotherly Sudanese people.

The Minister of State at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs affirmed Qatar’s keenness to support all international efforts, including those of the African Union Commission during today’s meeting, and everything that would accelerate the ceasefire process and resolve the crisis in Sudan.

Al Khulaifi stressed that the current crisis is Sudanese-Sudanese, and its solution in a sustainable manner will only be with Sudanese will, adding that Qatar would continue to support the efforts of the international community by providing aid and proposing appropriate diplomatic solutions.

He reiterated Qatar’s firm position regarding the unity of Sudan and its support for its brotherly people. He also called on the parties to exercise maximum restraint, resort to reason, give priority to the public interest, and spare civilians the consequences of fighting.

He also renewed Qatar’s appreciation for the African Union Commission’s efforts to resolve the crisis.
