Romanian Foreign Minister Begins Washington Visit to Bolster Strategic Partnership with U.S.

Washington, The Gulf Observer: Romanian Foreign Minister Oana Țoiu began her visit to Washington with a focus on strengthening the Romania–United States Strategic Partnership and promoting Romania’s key national interests through a series of high-level meetings on Capitol Hill. The visit comes at a critical time for Romania’s role in regional and transatlantic affairs.
Highlighting the pivotal role of the U.S. Congress in shaping both immediate and long-term perspectives on Romania and its neighborhood, Minister Țoiu met with several senior American lawmakers. These included Senator James Risch, Chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee; Senator Steve Daines, Chairman of the Subcommittee on Europe; Congressman William Keating, Co-Chair of the Subcommittee on Europe; and Congressman Tom Suozzi, Co-Chair of the Romania Caucus.
Talks centered on Romania’s role as a trusted U.S. ally, the resilience of bilateral security cooperation, and the expansion of trade and private investment. Key topics included defense and security collaboration, energy partnership projects at Cernavodă and Doicești, emerging opportunities in trade and investment, Romania’s aspirations for inclusion in the Visa Waiver Program, EU-U.S. relations, and the forthcoming visit of President Nicușor Dan.
The minister’s agenda in Washington will continue with additional meetings in Congress and engagements with members of the Romanian community in the United States, ahead of her participation in the United Nations General Assembly in New York.
