Romanian Foreign Minister Oana Țoiu to Attend Inaugural Critical Minerals Ministerial in Washington

Bucharest, The Gulf Observer: Romania’s Foreign Affairs Minister, Oana Țoiu, is set to lead the Romanian delegation to the first-ever Critical Minerals Ministerial in Washington, D.C., scheduled for February 4, 2026. The meeting, convened at the invitation of U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, aims to bolster international cooperation on securing diversified and resilient supply chains for critical minerals — key components for emerging technologies and energy systems.
Minister Țoiu will be in Washington from February 3 to 6 to participate in discussions focusing on strategic partnerships and investment frameworks for the critical minerals sector. The event seeks to strengthen collaboration between allied nations, advancing trade and investment opportunities that support secure mineral supply chains both bilaterally and within the broader European Union-U.S. framework.
According to the Romanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, proposals for future trade partnerships and the establishment of technical working groups will be among key agenda items at the ministerial. These efforts are expected to facilitate strategic investment and contribute to Romania’s positioning as a significant European actor in the critical minerals landscape.
The Romanian delegation accompanying Minister Țoiu includes senior government officials such as Mihai Jurcă, head of the Prime Minister’s Chancellery, and Radu Burnete, presidential adviser for economic and social policies.
While Romania’s domestic mineral resources sector continues to develop — with recent agreements advancing rare earth processing capacity and international partnerships — participation at the ministerial underscores Bucharest’s broader commitment to enhancing strategic autonomy and economic cooperation with key transatlantic partners.
