Romanian Prime Minister Attends Inauguration of €100 Million Mercedes Production Line in Sebeș

Sebeș, The Gulf Observer: Romanian Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan attended today the official inauguration of a new €100 million production line at the Mercedes-Benz facility in Sebeș, a major step in advancing Romania’s footprint in electric vehicle manufacturing.
The new assembly line, part of Mercedes’ Star Assembly unit, is dedicated to producing electric drive units for the fully-electric version of the Mercedes GLC model.
According to company and industry sources, this addition positions the Sebeș plant as one of the key European hubs supplying electric drive technology.
Officials at the launch emphasized the strategic importance of this investment for Romania’s automotive sector and broader ambitions in green technology. The Prime Minister noted that the facility would create local high-skill employment opportunities and strengthen the country’s competitiveness in Europe’s electric vehicle supply chain.
Industry analysts view the Mercedes investment as a signal of growing confidence in Eastern Europe’s role in sustainable mobility infrastructure. The new line in Sebeș will supplement existing capacity and align with Mercedes-Benz’s transition toward electrification.
As the European auto industry accelerates its shift to electric powertrains, the Sebeș facility is expected to play a pivotal part in supplying drive units for future Mercedes models across Europe.
