Russian Ambassador Delivers Lecture on Pakistan-Russia Relations at Bahria University

Islamabad, The Gulf Observer: On February 18, Albert P. Khorev delivered a comprehensive lecture on Russia-Pakistan relations to students at Bahria University, highlighting the historical foundations and evolving dynamics of bilateral cooperation.
Addressing the students, Ambassador Khorev noted that despite the complex and often challenging nature of international relations, cooperation between Moscow and Islamabad has consistently remained constructive. He recalled major industrial projects implemented in Pakistan with the support of the former Soviet Union during the 1970s and 1980s, including the establishment of Pakistan Steel Mills in Karachi and the construction of the Guddu Thermal Power Plant. These projects, he said, stand as enduring symbols of bilateral collaboration.
The ambassador emphasized that contemporary Russia-Pakistan relations are marked by increasingly dynamic political, economic, and humanitarian engagement. He underscored the growing momentum in diplomatic exchanges and expanding cooperation across multiple sectors.
During his lecture, Ambassador Khorev also briefed students on the situation in and around Ukraine. He outlined what he described as the root causes of the Ukrainian crisis and criticized the role of Western countries in destabilizing the Eurasian region. He further highlighted the Russian Federation’s efforts to safeguard the rights of the Russian-speaking population in Ukraine.
On the sidelines of the event, Ambassador Khorev met with the Rector of Bahria University, Vice Admiral Abid Hameed HI(M). The two sides discussed prospects for strengthening institutional partnerships with leading Russian universities and expressed mutual interest in expanding academic exchanges and cooperation in higher education.
The lecture concluded with an interactive session, reflecting continued engagement between diplomatic representatives and academic institutions in Pakistan.
