Russian Delegation Visits NDMA to Strengthen Cooperation in Disaster Management

Islamabad, The Gulf Observer: A high-level Russian delegation visited the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) of Pakistan on February 19 and held a meeting with its Chairman, Lieutenant General Inam Haider Malik, to enhance bilateral cooperation in disaster management and emergency response.

The Russian delegation was led by Yuri Gorlach, Director of the Crisis Management Center of the Russian Foreign Ministry, and included Boris Burmistrov, Deputy Director of the Second Asian Department, along with Albert P. Khorev.

During the visit, the delegation was briefed on NDMA’s innovative solutions for forecasting and issuing early warnings for natural disasters. Officials highlighted Pakistan’s advancements in risk assessment, real-time monitoring systems, and coordinated emergency response mechanisms aimed at minimizing the impact of natural calamities.

In the meeting, both sides expressed their commitment to further strengthening bilateral relations through enhanced cooperation, information sharing, and exchange of expertise in the fields of disaster preparedness and response. The discussions focused on building institutional linkages and exploring opportunities for joint initiatives in crisis management.

Lieutenant General Inam Haider Malik conveyed his appreciation to the Russian Federation for its humanitarian assistance extended to Pakistan in the aftermath of the devastating 2005 earthquake and the catastrophic floods of 2022. He acknowledged Russia’s support as a reflection of the longstanding goodwill between the two countries.

The visit marks another step toward deepening Pakistan-Russia collaboration in humanitarian assistance and disaster risk reduction, underscoring the importance of international partnerships in addressing global challenges posed by natural disasters.
