Sahiba Gafarova Re-elected as Speaker of Azerbaijani Milli Majlis

Baku, The Gulf Observer: Sahiba Gafarova has been re-elected as the Speaker of the Milli Majlis, the National Assembly of Azerbaijan, during the first session of the Parliament’s seventh convocation. Gafarova, who previously served as Speaker during the sixth convocation, was nominated for the role in today’s session of the newly composed Milli Majlis.
Her candidacy was proposed and supported by members of the Parliament in a vote held during the opening session, confirming her leadership for another term. The re-election reflects continued confidence in her ability to guide the legislative body in its critical work.
This development follows the Constitutional Court’s confirmation of the results of the 7th convocation’s parliamentary elections on September 21, 2024. The Court’s Plenum, convened in a special session, validated the election outcomes, paving the way for the new Parliament to commence its duties.
Sahiba Gafarova’s extensive experience in public service, including her previous tenure as Speaker, is expected to further strengthen the legislative efforts of the Milli Majlis in addressing national and international issues.
