Samarkand Hosts "Silk Road Bazaar" Handicraft Exhibition

Samarkand, The Gulf Observer: The historic city of Samarkand played host to the “Silk Road Bazaar” exhibition, bringing together 60 artisans from across Karakalpakstan, Tashkent, and various regions of Uzbekistan. The event, aimed at promoting the rich cultural heritage of Uzbek craftsmanship, was organized by the Samarkand Regional Branch of the Hunarmand Association.

“We are proud to present the unique handmade products created by our artisans to both local and foreign tourists visiting our ancient city,” said Umid Hakimov, Head of the Samarkand Regional Branch of Hunarmand. Visitors had the opportunity to purchase a variety of handmade souvenirs, textiles, and other artisanal goods, contributing to the promotion of traditional craftsmanship.

The exhibition also featured live demonstrations by artisans. Shoira Ganiyeva, a local craftswoman from Samarkand, held a masterclass on traditional silk pattern-making, showcasing the technique of using natural dyes to create intricate designs. Roziya Jamanazarova, an artisan from Tashkent, displayed her unique collection of hats and shoes crafted from Australian sheep wool, drawing the attention of attendees with her intricate handiwork.

As part of the exhibition, the book “Ancestral Heritage: History, Traditions, Experience” was also presented, offering insights into the historical significance and evolution of Uzbek handicrafts. The “Silk Road Bazaar” exhibition is an important event that celebrates the craftsmanship and artistic traditions of Uzbekistan, highlighting the skills and creativity of local artisans.

The exhibition attracted both local residents and international visitors, offering a vibrant showcase of Uzbekistan’s rich cultural legacy along the ancient Silk Road.
