Saudi Arabia and Kuwait Announce Significant Oil Discovery in North Wafra Wara-Burgan Field

Riyadh, The Gulf Observer: The governments of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the State of Kuwait have jointly announced a new oil discovery in the North Wafra Wara-Burgan field, situated approximately 5 kilometers north of the Wafra field within the Partitioned Zone between the two nations.

According to an official joint statement, crude oil flowed from the Wara reservoir in the North Wafra (Wara-Burgan-1) well at a rate exceeding 500 barrels per day. The oil extracted exhibits an API gravity between 26 and 27 degrees.

This marks the first oil discovery in the region since production operations resumed in the Partitioned Zone and its adjoining offshore areas in mid-2020, following a period of suspension. The restart of joint operations reflected the strong energy cooperation between Riyadh and Kuwait City.

The latest discovery is viewed as a strategically important development, enhancing the two countries’ positions as dependable suppliers in the global energy market. It also underscores their continued commitment to advancing exploration and production activities in shared oil fields, in line with long-term energy strategies.
