Saudi Foreign Minister Attends G20 Foreign Ministers' Meeting in Johannesburg

Johannesburg, The Gulf Observer: Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan arrived in Johannesburg, South Africa, to participate in the G20 Foreign Ministers’ Meeting, held under the theme “Solidarity, Equality, and Sustainable Development.”

South African President Cyril Ramaphosa is set to open the high-level gathering, which takes place against the backdrop of a complex regional and international political landscape.

Key topics on the agenda include the ongoing conflict in the Middle East and Russia’s war in Ukraine. Additionally, South Africa will emphasize several priorities, including financing mechanisms to support countries affected by climate disasters, strengthening resilience to climate change, and alleviating debt burdens. Discussions will explore the extension and expansion of debt relief for developing nations while ensuring the sustainability of debt for low-income countries.

The meeting will also focus on advancing reforms of international institutions to enhance their representativeness and effectiveness. Among the proposed changes are structural reforms of the United Nations and the international financial system to better address global challenges.

Other critical issues expected to be discussed include global geopolitical developments, food security, economic challenges, and international cooperation to promote peace and security.

This marks the first time a G20 Foreign Ministers’ Meeting is being held on the African continent, with the participation of numerous high-ranking officials from member states, including Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan.

The G20 holds significant global economic influence, accounting for approximately 85% of the world’s GDP, over 75% of global trade, and nearly two-thirds of the world’s population. As a result, the meeting serves as a crucial platform for addressing pressing global issues and fostering international cooperation.
