Saudi Minister of Justice Announces Comprehensive Review of Legal System at Saudi Lawyers Conference

Riyadh, The Gulf Observer: Dr. Walid Al-Samaani, Minister of Justice and Chairman of the Board of the Saudi Bar Association, has announced plans for a comprehensive review and development of the Saudi legal system. Speaking at the inauguration of the Saudi Lawyers Conference in Riyadh on Sunday, the minister highlighted that the initiative aims to empower the legal profession, enhance reliance on legal practitioners, improve access to legal services, and align with societal and legal advancements in the Kingdom.

The two-day conference, organized by the Saudi Bar Association under the theme “Developments in the Lawyers and Legal Consultations Sector,” serves as a platform for discussing legislative progress under Saudi Vision 2030. The minister emphasized that the review will be conducted in collaboration with the Saudi Bar Association.

Dr. Al-Samaani praised the significant developments achieved in the Kingdom’s legal and legislative sectors under the leadership and support of Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman and Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman.

“The legal system in the Kingdom has gone through transformative stages under the Crown Prince’s leadership, particularly in specialized legislation, with the legal profession playing a pivotal role in these advancements,” Al-Samaani stated.

He noted the increasing reliance on legal practitioners due to the Kingdom’s expanding and diversifying work environments. “The lawyer is the most adaptable professional cadre, indispensable in various judicial processes and administrative tasks,” he added.

As part of upcoming judicial initiatives, the minister announced that renewing a lawyer’s license will soon become automatic, requiring no more than 15 days from the submission of a completed application. This step is aimed at empowering lawyers and facilitating their professional practices.

The Saudi Lawyers Conference underscores the future of the legal sector amid legislative advancements, focusing on enhancing the efficiency of the legal environment and improving the business and investment climate in the Kingdom. The conference also highlights the role of professional and educational developments in strengthening the local legal framework.

This initiative marks another milestone in Saudi Arabia’s journey toward modernizing its legal system and fostering a robust legal environment in alignment with Vision 2030 objectives.
