Shaikh Isa Al Khalifa's racing team "2seas" wins at Portimao race

His Highness Shaikh Isa bin Abdullah bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the owner of “2seas” racing team expressed his pride in the team’s achievements, adding another accomplishment to the sporting achievements of Bahrain

Manama, The Gulf Observer: The Intelligent Money British GT Championship headed to the Algarve for its annual overseas race event, as 2 Seas Motorsport looked to build on a strong opening half of the season.

He extended his congratulations to all the team members for their outstanding collective efforts throughout the races in the global championship.

“The whole team was absolutely faultless this weekend, from start to finish. To arrive here knowing both cars had success penalties to serve during the race, we knew it would be a challenge to score a decent result, especially as we expected safety cars and incidents,” HH shaikh Isa bin Abdullah said.

“Being able to finish with a race win and a top-6, is a huge achievement all round. Both cars showed great pace across all sessions, and all four drivers were in the fight throughout the whole race. Big congratulations to James and Jonny for the race win – they were the class of the field today, and an amazing achievement for Jonny to equal Phil’s race wins record.”

James Cottingham and Jonny Adam would eventually convert a front row start into a third race win of the season for the pair, while season regular Ian Loggie was joined by Phil Keen, as the reigning champion scored important points with a P6 finish.

The result saw Jonny claim a record-equally 19th championship race win, now level with his teammate Phil Keen. This win extends the lead for him and James at the top of the Drivers’ Championship, while the points scored across the two cars leave 2 Seas Motorsport needing just six points to secure the Teams’ title, with two rounds to go.

On his part, James Cotttingham expressed his happiness with the results achieved by the team this week, acknowledging the support and interest of His Highness Shaikh Isa bin Abdullah bin Hamad Al Khalifa. As he also praised the team’s effective strategy during the race.

“An amazing result. This was probably the race I was most apprehensive about for the whole season, as it is a very technical track, and I was aware of how tough the conditions would be with the heat. The whole team did a great job giving us a car with a strong race pace. We were quick from the start, and immediately in the fight for the lead. Then our strategy window just opened when the Safety Car came out, which we managed to play to our advantage,” Cotttingham said.

The penultimate round of the season takes place at Brands Hatch, over the weekend 9-10 September.
