Shamakhi Hosts Conference on Freedom of Religious Belief in the Digital Era

Shamakhi, The Gulf Observer: A conference titled “Modern Information Space and Freedom of Religious Belief” has commenced in Shamakhi, co-organized by the State Committee on Work with Religious Institutions and the Media Development Agency of Azerbaijan.

According to media correspondent, the event is being held in connection with the Year of Constitution and Sovereignty in Azerbaijan and the 150th anniversary of the National Press. It has brought together senior officials from the organizing bodies, representatives of the Shamakhi District Executive Authority, members of the Milli Majlis (National Assembly), media professionals, and religious leaders.

As a symbolic start to the proceedings, participants paid tribute to National Leader Heydar Aliyev by laying flowers at his monument in Heydar Aliyev Park in Shamakhi.

The conference is focused on safeguarding freedom of religious belief within the rapidly evolving digital information space, while ensuring the effective implementation of relevant legal frameworks. Panel discussions will explore how digital platforms can be harnessed to strengthen religious education, promote tolerance, and cultivate a healthy religious outlook in society.

Participants will also discuss the importance of responsible digital communication and the role of media in fostering religious harmony.

As part of the conference agenda, a media tour of religious temples in Shamakhi has been organized, offering insight into the country’s rich religious and cultural heritage.

The event reflects Azerbaijan’s continued commitment to promoting religious freedom, interfaith dialogue, and media responsibility in the digital age.
