Shavkat Mirziyoyev Meets OSCE Observer Mission Ahead of Parliamentary Elections
Tashkent, The Gulf Observer: On October 25, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev of Uzbekistan met with Douglas Wake, Head of the election observation mission from the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR), to discuss preparations for the nation’s forthcoming parliamentary elections. During the meeting, both sides expressed satisfaction with the open and constructive dialogue established between Uzbekistan and the OSCE, underscoring the fruitful collaboration with ODIHR.
President Mirziyoyev commended the ODIHR mission’s active role in the election process, noting that their experts had contributed significantly to enhancing Uzbekistan’s electoral system. Many of ODIHR’s recommendations and proposals have been thoughtfully incorporated into the country’s legislative framework, strengthening the integrity of the electoral process. Wake expressed gratitude for the support extended to ODIHR’s mission and voiced appreciation for the ongoing democratic reforms and socio-economic progress taking place in New Uzbekistan.
This election cycle marks the first to be conducted under a mixed electoral system as outlined by Uzbekistan’s renewed Constitution, which enhances the role of parliament and local representative authorities, further promoting democratic governance in the country.
