Football Association of Indonesia

Jakarta, The Gulf Observer: The Football Association of Indonesia (PSSI) has confirmed that Shin Tae-yong will continue coaching the national football team, known as the “Garuda squad,” until 2027. This three-year contract extension underscores Shin’s commitment to supporting the development of Indonesian football.

In a statement released by PSSI, Chairperson Erick Thohir praised Shin Tae-yong’s achievements, noting that he successfully led the national team to the third stage of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualification and the 2024 Olympics play-off stage, significantly benefiting Indonesian football.

The contract extension reflects PSSI’s dedication to enhancing the quality and global achievements of Indonesian football. The continued collaboration between PSSI, Coach Shin, and all stakeholders is expected to bring further victories for Indonesia.

Shin Tae-yong, who replaced Scotland’s Simon McMenemy as coach on December 28, 2019, initially signed a four-year contract. Under his leadership, the “Garuda squad” underwent significant regeneration, with the average age of athletes now at 24. He also guided the team to the 2023 AFC Asian Cup, reaching the round of 16 after a 16-year absence.

With the extension of his contract, Shin’s next focus will be preparing the national team for the third round of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualification in the Asian zone, where Indonesia is placed in Group C alongside Japan, Australia, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, and China.
