SOCAR

Baku, The Gulf Observer: The State Oil Company of the Republic of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) and the Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC), the world’s largest container shipping and logistics company headquartered in Geneva, Switzerland, have signed a strategic cooperation agreement in Baku.

The agreement aims to strengthen Türkiye’s role in the global supply chain through joint investments in SOCAR Terminal, the largest container port in the Aegean region. Under the partnership, MSC’s subsidiary and Terminal Investment Limited (TIL), a global terminal operator, will become shareholders in SOCAR Terminal.

The collaboration will facilitate SOCAR Terminal’s integration into TIL’s extensive global network, while new equipment and technological investments are expected to boost terminal capacity, enhance operational efficiency, and advance digitalization, sustainability, and infrastructure development.

Known as the “Largest Integrated Port of the Aegean Region,” SOCAR Terminal holds strategic significance for both regional and global trade. The port features a 700-meter continuous pier, 16-meter depth, 420,000 square meters of port area, and 30,000 square meters of backwater area, positioning it as a key hub for international shipping and logistics.

The agreement underscores SOCAR’s commitment to modernizing port operations and strengthening international cooperation in maritime trade.
