Somali-Omani Talks Strengthen Bilateral Ties in Transport and Investment

Mogadishu, The Gulf Observer: Dr. Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, on Sunday received Eng. Said Hamoud Al Maawali, Minister of Transport, Communications, and Information Technology of the Sultanate of Oman, along with his accompanying delegation in Mogadishu.

During the meeting, Minister Al Maawali conveyed the greetings and best wishes of His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik to President Dr. Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, expressing His Majesty’s hopes for the continued prosperity and well-being of the Somali people. In response, President Dr. Hassan extended his heartfelt regards to His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik, wishing him good health and success, as well as progress and development for the people of Oman.

The discussions reaffirmed the strong and historic ties between Oman and Somalia, emphasizing the significance of enhancing cooperation across various sectors. Both sides acknowledged the potential for strengthening bilateral relations and fostering collaboration in key areas of mutual interest.

As part of the visit, a session of talks was held between the Omani and Somali delegations, attended by Fardowsa Osman Egal, Somalia’s Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation, and Mahmoud Aden Geesood, Somalia’s Minister of Ports and Marine Transport, alongside other Somali officials. The session focused on exploring avenues for cooperation, particularly in transport, logistics, and infrastructure, as well as investment opportunities beneficial to both nations.

The Omani delegation included Eng. Khamis Mohammed Al Shamakhi, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Transport, Communication and Information Technology, along with representatives from the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion, the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources, the Public Authority for Special Economic Zones and Free Zones (OPAZ), Oman Investment Authority (OIA), Oman Airports, and several other key entities.

The visit reflects the commitment of both nations to fostering closer economic and diplomatic ties, reinforcing shared interests, and unlocking new opportunities for collaboration in vital sectors.
